Does whitening toothpaste work?

Clinical studies show White Birch Activated White Charcoal Whitening toothpaste will whiten your teeth 2+ shades in 14 days and 4+ shades in 28 days.

What is activated charcoal?

Activated charcoal is a form of charcoal processed to have small, low-volume pores that increase the surface area available for adsorption or chemical reaction.  These adsorption properties provide a variety of uses designed at eliminating and filtering toxins, primarily environmentally, but also medically. One of activated charcoal’s primary medical uses is to help treat people who have been poisoned. The charcoal is thought to adsorb certain toxins, helping to stop the process of poisoning.

How does charcoal whiten teeth?

When charcoal is “activated” it becomes a form of charcoal that has small, low-volume pores that increase the surface area.  With its vast surface area, activated charcoal adsorbs compounds that cause stains on our teeth and aids in their removal. This increased surface also can be used as a gentle abrasive to polish dark stains out of enamel.  White Birch Toothpaste provides a consistent uniform ultra-fine activated charcoal particle size, to serve as a gentle abrasive that will not wear away tooth enamel.

Why is surface area an important quality in activated charcoal?

Surface area in White Birch activated white charcoal makes it a great adsorbent and gentle, but effective abrasive.  These two attributes along with our patent-pending formulation, which includes Jojoba Oil and Peppermint will keep breath fresh and your teeth free of stains.

How is White Birch Activated White Charcoal made?

First, the bark of the white birch tree is heated to create a char.  This char is then "activated" in a furnace at very high temperatures with steam in the absence of oxygen.  In the steam-activation process, a tremendous amount of surface area is created by removing impure and volatile compounds.

Unlike other activated black charcoal toothpastes which may provide differing abrasion consistency’s, White Birch Toothpaste provides a consistent, uniform, ultra-fine activated "white" charcoal particle size, to serve as a gentle abrasive that will not wear away tooth enamel. We have one of the lowest RDA scores in whitening toothpastes at 45. Also, our toothpaste has the special added ingredient jojoba oil (wax) that polishes, protects and creates a shiny smile.

Is White Birch Charcoal ever too abrasive for teeth?

No. White Birch Activated White Charcoal is well below the recommended ADA limit of 250 and FDA limit of 200. Clinical studies show White Birch is less abrasive than many leading whitening brands and has a Relative Dentin Abrasivity (RDA) of 45.  We can not speak for other brands of Actived Charcoal toothpaste with higher RDA scores.

Is charcoal good for your teeth?

We can not speak for other brands of Activated Charcoal toothpaste, but Clinical studies show White Birch is less abrasive than leading brands and has a Relative Dentin Abrasivity (RDA) of 45.  White Birch Activated White Charcoal is well below the recommended ADA limit of 250 and FDA limit of 200.  Therefore, White Birch Activated White Charcoal will not wear away tooth enamel or harm teeth in any way.
